Carol Christian Poell Red Prosthetic Tornado Boots
Perhaps the most famous and most sought after item ever made by Carol Christian Poell. Easily recognisable by the titanium inserts on the ankle and toe of the boot which are most commonly referred to as prosthetics. Also featured is a zipper which twists upwards from the medial side of the foot to the calf. Indicated by its product code, this pair is made from Poell’s thicker kangaroo leather and is object dyed in colour 13. One of the most beautiful boots that Akaibu has held in hand, the titanium prosthetics featured are comfortably lined and are unnoticeable when walking. Kangaroo leather allows for a very supple touch yet structured feel. This is a pair of boots made to age well.
Carol Christian Poell’s artisanal work remains as one of the most wanted by avant-garde collectors around the world. His complex technique of object dying is accomplished by dying a fully assembled product instead of the more traditional method of independently dying the fabric which is later assembled with the rest of the item. This allows for the dye to interact with the products in a much more “imperfect” way, making every pair unique. The beauty of Poell’s work lies in the many intricate details of its complex production cycle.
