Undercover Scab Hybrid Pants/Skirt SS/03
These skirt pants have an absolutely unique design to them & being one of the stand outs of the runway show, seen in multiple looks on the runway. The skirt features a hybrid design with knee length pants & a Rayon skirt sown over the top. As seen on multiple other pairs of bottoms from the Scab collection there is a zipper around the waist line for accessories. This skirt comes with silver bells & an ethnic patterned draw string from the ends. Just like any other garment from the collection we can see the skirt decorated in an array of scab patches & loose threads all over. Another unique feature from this pair is the metal hardware hoops located around the waist belt line. This was used to clip on various pockets & other accessories from the collection.
The runway saw models in a array of crust punk fabric garments, many of them having multiple layers of clothing on-top of each other, such as the skirt. It was worn over denim crust punk pants, or even just work as is with layers of ethnic fabric draping over it. This skirt is decorated in an array of scab patches, each from a completely unique fabric to the other & hand stitched on with various different colour threads. One of the most striking aspects of this skirt is the long draping colour threads but along with that is the disheveled fringe like fabric along the waist line of the skirt. Very detailed with an "ethnic" fabric printed on, & distressed raw cut edges. The skirt even has metal hooks & hardware from the belt loops handing & s metal buckle from the mid section attached swell, making this skirt so beautiful.
The Undercover Spring Summer 2003 "Scab" was undoubtably a revolutionary turning point in Jun Takahashi's career! This was the first time he showcased his debut collection to the world, at Paris fashion week 2002. The various references to the "Crust Punk" Aesthetic & Ethnic fabrics used created a tense atmosphere in the showroom. With subtle references to 9/11 during a tense time Jun Takahashi stepped in a realm which no designer at the time had even wanted to think about. He closed the show dressing models in a array of multicoloured burquas. In which helped the collection gain additional attention.
