Raf Simons AW/98-99 Alpaca Wool “Radioactivity” Size 50
This overcoat by Raf Simons is a tasteful example of timeless design. Thick alpaca wool and hidden front buttons give this overcoat a futuristic look even by today's standard. This piece features Raf’s signature chain back loop to go along with some boxy pocket flaps and 3 button sleeve cuffs. Although Raf Simons has been quoted saying that it would be wrong to call him a minimalist, this overcoat is the perfect blend of minimalistic yet functional design.
One of the biggest and most recognizable names in not only fashion but design as a whole, and for good reason. The late 90’s for Raf Simons saw a shift towards suiting. Deciding to take a step back from the punk aesthetic which would later become the focus and foundation of his career. A foundation which would eventually change the industry altogether. “I am obsessed by tailoring—very strong, linear clothes,” he says in an interview ahead of his spring 1999 collection “Kinetic Youth.” This era of Raf Simons saw him transform his raver silhouettes into more structured and sleek looks.
