Carol Christian Poell
Carol Christian Poell Vest
As previously explored here on Akaibu, Carol Christian Poell has built his brand on the backbone of technical complexity and intricate design. This Poell piece features 4 separate zippers that make up the front of the vest. A collar fastening clip is accompanied by side vents which detach to reveal concealed pockets. Carol Christian Poell manages to make a seemingly ordinary design a true case study of technical ability and detail. Do not be fooled by a run of the mill Poell piece as it will only turn out to be far from it. The intricate zipper assembly and side vents allow this vest to be worn in many different ways. Also allowing the wearer to create a multitude of silhouettes depending on what they chose to leave open or closed.
Poell learned the art of garment construction and manufacturing from a very early age. His family’s relevance in the leather industry and further schooling in both tailoring and fashion design gave Carol the backing he needed to start his eponymous label in 1995. The world of Carol Christian Poell began as he released “The Unintended Collection” later that year. Carol’s collections are always incredibly conceptual in presentation and commercial release. His most popular “Mainstream-Downstream” collection saw models sent floating seemingly lifeless down the Naviglio Grande canal in Milan as the public watched in complete awe.
